Siemens S7-1200: Pedestrian Crossing

A complete design process on a real training rig: from block diagram to an optimized, running program on the Siemens S7-1200 (CPU 1212C) in TIA Portal.

Watch the final result

What you will build: TIA Portal monitoring, watch tables and a browser-based crossing visualization served by the PLC itself. (Polish audio, English subtitles.)

This package of unique instructional videos presents the complete design process — how to program a PLC using a practical, real-world example.

What is this course about?

You will learn how to write sequences that switch lights depending on which pushbutton is pressed. Every step of the light-switching sequence must be executed correctly — and that is exactly what this course teaches. Using the block diagram included with the course, you will learn how to turn a specification into a working program.

Programming such a training rig may look simple at first glance, but if you are just starting out with PLC programming, this course is well worth your time. Step by step, you will see how to solve the most common problems that appear when you program a Siemens S7-1200 PLC for the first time.

Throughout the course we deliberately introduce programming problems — then we understand them and solve them, optimizing the controller’s operation along the way.

About the author

The course author, Jakub Chmielewski, is a graduate of Wrocław University of Science and Technology — one of the best technical universities in Poland — and of the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. On a daily basis he runs his company Ares, which delivers PLC system implementations. The course was compiled and produced by the mepi studio, already known for many successful productions on PLC programming education.
