The ultimate PLC training experience for beginners — a step-by-step introduction to controllers, built on the everyday experience of a practicing automation expert. Based on the Siemens LOGO! 12/24 RC (8 inputs, 4 outputs, internal time clock).
Course description
This innovative PLC online training is addressed to all automation enthusiasts. If you are thinking about working in the automation industry, you have to deal with PLCs. If you work or study and wonder if — and how — to start your adventure with PLCs, see this course. All over the world, the continuing development of industrial automation makes PLC training a good investment.
New career opportunities with PLC
PLC devices have been present on the market for over 40 years. They are used in various industries and in building automation, and they promote green solutions. PLC programming skills are increasingly sought by employers. Want to take your career to the next level? Learn ladder logic!
Curriculum
- What is a PLC? (7:34) — controllers in general and the LOGO! 12/24 RC we will use.
- Introduction to Siemens PLC (5:09) — meet the hardware.
- PLC start-up training kit (10:30) — build a simple control station and wire the LOGO! power supply.
- LOGO! Soft Comfort — basics (4:40) — the programming environment, ending with your first program.
- Uploading the program to the LOGO! (2:30) — download and test in simulation mode.
- Basic functions AND and OR (7:30) — simple conditions for actuating outputs.
- Stairway lighting (14:30) — first practical example, introducing timers.
- Automatic gate system, parts I–III (56:00) — the final project: gate control, driveway lighting, warning flashers, sensors and motion detection — all in ladder logic.
- Temperature sensor project — working with analog inputs.
What will you learn?
- How to assemble a PLC device
- Uses of programmable controllers in industry and building automation
- How to write programs in LOGO! Soft Comfort
- Functions used in programming

- How to work with analog inputs and timers
From the author
The author of the course is a graduate of Poznan University of Technology, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Management:
“I have a few years’ experience working with various programming systems used in industrial automation, from PLC to visualization systems (SCADA)… It was my intention to do this course based on practical examples, and to relate it to what I see in my work. It means introducing a measure of problem-solving to the tutorials, along with the knowledge you’ll need to write the programs we will work on. I hope my course will be a good introduction to the fascinating world of logic controllers.”
